Text is designed to provide a comprehensive, authoritative and readable pharmacology presentation to students. The current edition (11/e) was a drastic change, in terms of trim size, pedagogy and going to four color. This 12/e will include close to 10% new art and will maintain the case studies used in many chapters, as well as continued expansion of the coverage of general concepts relating to newly discovered receptors, receptor mechanisms and drug transporters.

The 12/e will focus on the ancillary issue. As the Lange books now get revised, we will want to create a consistent ancillary package on each of the future new edition products that publish. I have asked for global feedback on what specific ancillaries we need to compete with Elseveier. In addition, I would like to explore the Basic Science visibility on AccessMedicine, to perhaps include lectures from professors who use Katzung. MSU currently is only offering a pharmacology online course, where all the lectures are on video from the Katzung text. This is the type of content may be a helpful feature on Access.

Market / Audience
Medical Students that take either a separate or integrated pharmacology course. Also used in osteopathic schools and a few nursing masters programs.

About the Book
Full color presentation, will include more then 330 illustrations, with 30 or so being new. Each chapter will continue to discuss drug groups and prototypes and chapter opening case studies, will continue. The handy summary tables, which conclude chapters are one of the strongest features of this product. Students in focus groups really rely on these tables.

Competitive Landscape:
2011 or 2012 Elsevier will publish the new edition of Rang and Kalant and Golan from LWW should be out as well with a new edition.
Golan LWW 2007
Kalant Elsevier 2007
Rang/Dale Elsevier 2007
Wecker (Brody’s Pharmacology) Elsevier 2010
Waller-1st Ed Elsevier 2010
Neal Wiley (2010 1st ed)

Golan is the true head-on competitor here and this text focuses much more on biochemistry, rather than pharmacology
