He described his meetings with leading scientists, artists and instrument makers, and the many scientific institutions he visited. The diary is also full of drawings of the buildings, technical devices and instruments he saw. Bugge’s diary is now available in an English translation with an introduction and notes by historians of science Kurt Moller Pedersen and Peter de Clercq.
